<description>WONDERFUL ARTICLE. As a retired art teacher I identified with all that you were saying about design. The respected school of design, arts, and crafts, the original Bauhaus in Weimer Geramany, had this mantra:form follows function. It applies to any form of art and design, even to sidewalk placement around new buildings. But it especially applies to designing books; both the inside and outside. It&#039;s obvious that you know your subject well. I learned some things. The most important being that if an author is self-published, he should put out some extra money to have the whole project designed by a professional.

I have an art background and I love to draw and paint, but I wouldn&#039;t think of designing my own book or even illustrating it unless it was a limited edition printed only for my family. Also, I love the idea of illustrating a book for children with clay figures. If we lived closer, I would be your assistant whether you wanted my help or not.
Good article.
